Overview of Browndale

Neighborhood


The Browndale neighborhood is located in the southeastern corner of St. Louis Park in Ward 2. Browndale is bordered by Excelsior Boulevard to the north, the City of Edina to the south, Wooddale Avenue and Edina to the east, and Highway 100 to the west. This neighborhood covers 160.9 acres with approximately 22 residential blocks.

 

Browndale is primarily made up of single-family houses, with the exception of Excelsior Boulevard and the businesses situated there. Within the Browndale neighborhood, there are about 549 single family homes, 36 condos, 18 apartments, and 4 duplex units. For single family homes, the average year built was 1942. The population of the Browndale neighborhood is approximately 1,385 residents.

 

In 1996, the Browndale Neighborhood Association was established. Even today, the association continues to put on events and bring a sense of community to locals. The association hosts the winter skating party, spring egg hunt, summer picnic, and fall bonfire. Other events within Browndale include a neighborhood garage sale, a campout and movie night,, plant swap and sale, Independence Day kiddie parade, and the Winterfest. Each of these events draws the community together and brings a sense of neighborhood pride.

 

Browndale is home to one park situated in the south central portion of the neighborhood.

 

Browndale Park: Browndale Park is a quaint park with a variety of amenities. Browndale Park is used year round because of its skating rink. The Browndale neighborhood uses Browndale Park for many events throughout the year.
